Decarius, a Newburgh, NY native, is the youngest of 4 siblings and currently a Poughkeepsie resident. A graduate of Newburgh Free Academy in 1995 and on to Hampton University, graduating with honors earning a BA in Political Science in 1999, where he wrote his senior seminar thesis on the Crack v. Powder Cocaine sentencing disparities. He later enrolled in Massachusetts School of Law, where he received his Juris Doctor. Outside of academic works, he became a Case Manager and eventually Supervisor for Volunteers of America, worked at Camp LaGuardia (a Men's Homeless Shelter), and community work in the City of Newburgh mentoring at-risk teens with a group called Measure of a Man in conjunction with the City of Newburgh Youth Bureau. Only later to a career change in 2014. Along with some friends, he created Financing Your Freedom, LLC., where he was Chief Operating Officer geared to provide financial literacy for the community.
Additionally, Decarius is an ordained minister at the Life Chapel Newburgh and a Sunday School Teacher. Decarius is a long time blaxploitation movie enthusiast and collector who loves to laugh, read history books, and his people. He is an avid book lover of history, loves his Black people and community, loving husband to his wife Shari since 2015, and now the father of a beautiful 3-year-old boy Ezra, aka EZ.
